My first legit in-print publication feature!
Gosh I was over the moon when I found out about this (which was months ago but I had no time to blog about it till now).
I have flipped through the pages of The Knot Magazine countless times for inspiration or just to admire other photographer’s pretty images. I was researching how to submit a wedding to be featured when I got an email from a random Knot staff member requesting to feature one of my past, favorite weddings in the next issue.
Um. Pinch me?!
This came at a time in my career when I was worn out, tired, and overwhelmed. I was questioning whether I should be shooting weddings at all.
I had gone to college to be a nurse. Period. So that is what I am supposed to be doing (I told myself).
I wasn’t supposed to be working all week, then driving and shooting all weekend, coming home at night to edit till I feel asleep, then wake up and go to hospital to do it all over again the next day.
So when I received that email and finally saw those pages in real life, in my hands, in print…to be honest it was downright validating. Maybe I should be doing this? Maybe I should be a full time wedding photographer?
I was so torn over what I should do and what I wanted to do.
But! I wasn’t raised to follow the crowd. I was raised to march to the beat of my own drum. This feature was one of the many much-too-coincidental-signs that I should chase my dreams with all my efforts. It pushed me to step off the straight & narrow. For that…I will always be thankful.
A new issue is coming out this summer…it’s going to be SUPER special to me this time. Stay tuned friends.
