If you’re looking for a photography session in an open field with perfect lighting and total privacy… look no further than my backyard. It is one of my favorite locations for SO many reasons, and Heidi + Kevin’s anniversary session is the perfect example!

One of the reasons I love shooting in my backyard is the privacy. My couples have the freedom to be themselves without worrying about other people. Heidi + Kevin showed up ready to be themselves with their dog in tow! They were willing to laugh, to play, to run, to romance…and it truly is one of my favorite sessions.  

I did a nervous, yet happy dance when I saw their names land in my inbox. Before I started photographing, I admired them very much. They are also photographers and their style has always been so happy, silly, and colorful. It is always an honor to photograph someone you admire…intimidating, but an honor! 

Heidi + Kevin were sweeter than I could have imagined. I laughed so much during their session and loved that they brought their dog with them.

It’s a common misconception that photographers can “make” magic happen. While yes, I am trained and prepared to make flattering poses of anyone, in any place, in any light…there is chemistry between couples that I cannot simply create. 

We can only photograph what is there and what is given to us. The couple brings just as much to the table as the photographers do! I’m good at pulling that “thing” out of people and accentuating what they have going on, but I cannot create something that is not there. I adore the relationship between Heidi and Kevin!
